Rome (Agenzia Fides) - "I communicate that the participants in the XV General Assembly of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (P.I.M.E.), re-elected St. Matthias the Apostle, Father Ferruccio Brambillasca, Superior General of the Institute this morning, 14 May 2019. We ask God's fatherly blessing on him and on our whole family of apostles". Thus writes Father Marco Villa, general secretary, in a message sent to Fides.
The XV General Assembly of the Institute opened on April 27th and will end on May 23rd. The verse of the first Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians, "Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel" was chosen as the guiding phrase of the works, which brings together the delegates of over 460 missionaries who today work in 16 nations on all continents. The task of the Assembly in addition to that of electing the new general direction is to discern and establish the directions to be taken to carry out the Institute's mission in the best possible way.
Father Brambillasca was born in Monza (MB) on 11 June 1964, he graduated in dogmatic theology. He was ordained a priest on 10 June 1989. He was a formator in Italy and in India. From 1998 he worked in Japan, of which he became regional superior. On 20 May 2013, he was elected Superior General for the first time. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides, 14/5/2019)
