Lahore (Agenzia Fides) – To condemn the killings and express full solidarity with the Christians in Nigeria: as Agenzia Fides learns the Commission for interreligious dialogue and ecumenism, of the Catholic Bishops' Conference in Pakistan, organized an interreligious meeting in which several Christian and Muslim leaders took part. They all recalled the massacres that took place in recent months in the great African state.
Among those present, Maulana Muhammad Asim Makhdoom expressed his solidarity with the Nigerian Christians, while Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap, Executive Secretary of the Commission, who expressed his deep sorrow for the killing of Christians in Nigeria and for the massacre of Muslims in New Zealand, said that "the world community must take note of what is happening in Nigeria", appealing to the leaders of governments and the international community.
Fr. Nadeem said that "the Pakistani political leadership must learn from the example of the Prime Minister of New Zealand who, during the massacre in Christchurch, did everything possible to support and console the Muslim community". A heartfelt appeal was then addressed to mass media so that "they play an active and positive role, in Nigeria, in Paskitan and throughout the world, for the protection of humanity and of believers of all religions". Fr. Nadeem assured that the national Commission for interreligious dialogue and ecumenism with all the religious leaders who are part of it, rejects any kind of killing in the name of religion and will continue to give a contribution to Pakistani society in promoting peace and harmony.
