AFRICA/NIGERIA - Appointment of the Coadjutor of Abuja

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed His Exc. Mgr. Ignatius Ayau Kaigama, currently Archbishop of Jos as Archbishop Coadjutor of the Archdiocese of Abuja (Nigeria).
His Exc. Mgr. Ignatius Ayau Kaigama was born on July 31, 1958 in Kona, Diocese of Jalingo in Nigeria. He studied Theology at St. Augustine Major Seminary in Jos. He was ordained a priest on 6 June 1981 for the Diocese of Yola. In 1991 he received a doctorate in Spiritual Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University. He was named the first Bishop of the Diocese of Jalingo on 3 February 1995 and was consecrated on 23 April 1995. He was transferred to the Metropolitan See of the Archdiocese of Jos on 14 April 2000. Since 2015 he has been President of the Episcopal Conference of West Africa (RECOWA-CERAO), and member of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization since 25 July 2012.
