Havana (Agenzia Fides) - A week of missionary experience, visiting families at home and sharing the "joy of the Gospel". This is how the young people of the diocese of Holguin chose to spend their summer holidays to learn about popular religiosity and live in simplicity. As Agenzia Fides learns, these young people who identify themselves with the acronym JESEC (Jovenes En Servicio de Cristo), met with Fr. Oscar Herrera, S.J. in Holguin for a formation meeting, to then dedicate themselves to the missionary work organized by the diocese.
One of them, José Ángel Parra Hernández, said that he understood that "you cannot transmit what you do not live, that is why we talked about our relationship with God and how we should nourish our spiritual life through prayer and sacraments, until we totally become Christian". Then they went "to visit families, bringing a message of joy and spending time with the children".
María de Jesús Lladó Rodríguez, has already participated in two missionary experiences: "It is nice to share faith by going to a small community, and it is surprising to see young people with their joy and who are never tired".
Fr. Dayron Hernández Martín, who leads the missionary activity in the diocese, explains that young people are called through their parish priests as "missionaries sent by the Church". Fr. Oscar Herrera SJ, from the Archdiocese of Havana, spoke to them about the importance of their spiritual life and the daily encounter with Jesus to transmit his message of love.
