AFRICA/D.R.CONGO - Bishop of Luebo appointed

Vatican City (Fides Service) - The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on 7 January 2006 appointed Bishop of Luebo (DR Congo) Rev. Pierre-Célestin Tshitoko Mamba of the clergy of Kananga, until now rector of the Inter-diocesan Philosophy Seminary at Kabwe (Kananga).
The new Bishop was born on 23 February 1956 at Kolwezi. He attended St. Thérèse School in Nganza parish, archdiocese of Kananga, then went to Kabwe minor seminary. After studying philosophy at the philosophy seminary of Kabwe and Mbujimayi, he studied theology at Inter-diocesan Seminary at Malole, and obtained a Licentiate in Biblical Theology at the Catholic Faculty in Kinshasa.
He was ordained a priest on 22 August 1982 for the archdiocese of Kananga. Since then he has ministered as follows: 1982-1985: Studies for licentiate in biblical theology at the Catholic Faculty Kinshasa; 1985-1988: Professor Inter-diocesan major Seminary, Malole (Kananga);1988-1993: studies in Rome for a licentiate in biblical theology at Urban University; 1993-1994: Secretary to the archbishop of Kananga.
