ASIA/MYANMAR - Appointment of the Rector of the "St. Joseph" Major Seminary in Mandalay

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On May 1, 2017, Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed the Rector of the "St. Joseph" Interdiocesan Philosophical Seminary in the Archdiocese of Mandalay, Myanmar, rev. Peter Maung (Than), of the archdiocesan clergy of Taunggyi.
The new Rector was born on June 6, 1967 in Pekhon, Southern Shan, and was ordained a priest on March 19, 1991. After his ordination he was Vice-parish priest (Pekchon diocese) and Parish priest (Archdiocese of Taunggyi), then studied in Rome (1995-97). He was also Rector of the Star of Evangelization Seminary (in Pekhon), of the Little Way Seminary (Taunggyi). He studied at Manila Clinical Parstoral Education (2004-2006). He was then Rector of the Little Way Seminary and since 2012, was Director of the KMSS-TGY (Karuna Myanmar Social Services). (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 31/08/2017)
