ASIA/MYANMR - Appointment of coadjutor bishop of Pekhon

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Felice Ba Htoo of the clergy of the diocese of Pekhon, Myanmar, until now diocesan chancellor, parish priest of the Mother of God parish in Mobye and diocesan director of the Missionary Society of the Holy Childhood, as coadjutor bishop of the same diocese of Pekhon.
Msgr. Felice Ba Htoo was born on 27 April 1963 in Sonbalan, diocese of Pekhon. He studied philosophy and theology at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Major Seminary in Yangon and was ordained a priest on 4 April 1991, for the clergy of the diocese of Pekhon. He subsequently continued his studies in Rome, obtaining a licentiate and a doctorate in spiritual theology.
He has held the following offices: assistant parish priest in Hwarikhy (1991-1993) and in Mobye (1995-1997), rector of Saint Theresa’s Intermediate Seminary in Taunggyi (1997-2000), rector of Saint Michael’s Major Seminary in Pekhon (2008-2011), spiritual director and professor at Saint Joseph’s Major Seminary in Yangon (2011-2019), secretary to the bishop of Pekhon (2019-2021), and visiting professor at the Loikaw-Taunggyi Major Seminary (2022). Since 2022 he has served as diocesan director of the Missionary Society of the Holy Childhood. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 25/03/2024)
