Bangui (Agenzia Fides) - "I have come here so that the children whose parents do not have the means to send them to school, and the abandoned orphans, can study and I hope can be nurses, ministers, deputies tomorrow", said Cardinal-elect, Dieudonné Nzapalainga, Archbishop of Bangui, where he delivered school supplies and food to the mostly Muslim inhabitants.
Km5 is troubled by shootings (see Fides 31/10/2016) that jeopardize the education of the children who live there, often in precarious conditions. The same teachers assigned to the school in the area refuse to go to work, fearing for their safety.
Cardinal-elect has decided to offer concrete help delivering in person several school kits and food parcels to encourage children to go to school. In addition to notebooks and blackboards sacks of rice, oil cans and tins of sardines were distributed.
The gesture was well received by the local District Councilor, Abdoulaye Aroufaye, who invited the students to go to school. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 16/11/2016)
