Madrid (Agenzia Fides) - On September 8 International Literacy Day is celebrated. The Spanish NGO "Manos Unidas" clearly expresses the serious discomfort experienced by millions of women around the world. Among these, more than 500 million are illiterate, suffer from loneliness, isolation and marginalization, because they do not know how to read or write. For them access to fundamental rights, legal assistance and scientific and technological progress, is much more difficult. Illiteracy is synonymous with poverty and rejection and, to cope with the phenomenon, Manos Unidas claim equality of opportunity for women in access to education. The NGO, in 2015, approved 219 educational projects. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 06/09/2016)
