Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 11 April 2016 the Holy Father appointed Rev. Mgr. Thomas Paulsamy, Pastor of St. Anthony's Church in Kallukuzhy, former Vicar General of the diocese of Tiruchirapalli as Bishop of the Diocese of Dindigul (India).
Rev. Mgr. Thomas Paulsamy was on born August 2, 1951 N. Poolampatty, in the diocese of Tiruchirapalli. After attending school in his village, he completed his studies in Philosophy and Theology at St. Paul's Seminary in Tiruchirapalli. He was ordained a priest on May 25, 1977 for the clergy of the diocese of Tiruchirapalli, which was part of the current diocese of Dindigul.
Since his ordination he has served the following pastoral and academic roles: 1977-1979: Assistant parish of St. Mary's Cathedral in Melapudur, Tiruchirapalli; 1979-1980: Assistant parish of Seven Dolours Church in Palaiyakoil, Tiruchirapalli; 1980-1985: Pastor of St. Aloysius's Church in Kosavapatty, Dindigul; 1985-1986: Pastor of the Church of St. Joseph the Worker in Kailasapuram, Tiruchirapalli; 1986-1992: Parish priest and Vicar Forane of St. Joseph's Church in Dindigul; 1992-1993: Sabbatical Year in the United States of America, with studies at the Maryknoll School of Theology, in New York; 1993-1995: Pastor of St. Francis Xavier Church in Malayadipatti, Tiruchirapalli; 1995-2001: Pastor of Holy Redeemer's Basilica in Palakarai, Tiruchirapalli; 2002-2004: Pastor of St. Mary's Cathedral in Melapudur, Tiruchirapalli; 2004-2005: Pastor of Our Lady of Dolours Church in Nanjur, Pudukottai; 2005-2007: Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Fathimanagar, Tiruchirapalli; 2007-2015: Vicar General of the diocese of Tiruchirapalli.
