Lodosa (Agenzia Fides) - St. Antony’s Orphanage in Balabhava in the Indian diocese of Irinjalakuda, in Kerala, continues to be supported by the missionary community of Recollect Augustinians, through the Esperanza Spanish NGO in the Navarra town of Lodosa. St. Antony’s Orphanage, one of twenty in this diocese, is run by Indian diocesan priest Fr. John Paul Iyyanam, with a team of two religious sisters, one religious brother and five teachers. The Home has 150 children coming from broken families, with only one parent unable to keep or educate them. Some are children from tribal communities or small extremely poor rural villages. Fr Iyyanam said the aim of the Orphanage which relies entirely on outside funding, is to provide the children with a good education to enable them to be safe and self-supporting in the future . “Our aim is not to allow poverty or family situations prevent the development and happiness of these children”, the director said in a message to Fides.
