Tuesday, 1 September 2015

Hyderabad (Agenzia Fides) - The first World Day of Prayer for the protection of creation, which is held today, September 1, will be celebrated in India with interreligious meetings. This was reported to Agenzia Fides by the Federation of Churches of Andhra Pradesh, a body that brings together the Christian communities of various confessions in the state of South India. As Fides learns, the communities of the local faithful have organized several initiatives and celebrations involving the communities of other religions that appreciated the invitation and enthusiastically joined in the activities proposed.
"We will make sure that, as requested by the Pope, the Day will be a significant opportunity for prayer, reflection, conversion and adoption of appropriate lifestyles" says the note of the Federation. Religious leaders and devout Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and indigenous cults take part in the meetings promoted by Christians. They all share the desire to become "guardians of the Creation that God has entrusted to humanity".
In the meetings, the note sent to Fides says, the "Canticle of the Sun" of St. Francis of Assisi and the prayer composed by Pope Francis, that concludes his Encyclical Letter Laudato Sì, will be recited. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 01/09/2015)
