ASIA/INDIA - Appointment of bishop of Bagdogra, India

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Paul Simick as bishop of the diocese of Bagdogra, India, transferring him from the apostolic vicariate of Nepal and the titular see of Maturba.
Bishop Paul Simick was born on 7 August 1963 in Gitdubling in the diocese of Darjeeling, and was awarded a doctorate in biblical theology from the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome.
He was ordained a priest on 9 April 1992 for the diocese of Darjeeling.
He has held the following offices: hostel prefect of the Namchi Public School in Sikkim (1992-1993), parish priest of Saint Maurice in Suruk (1993-1995), teacher of sacred scripture at Morning Star College (2000-2006), parish priest of Christ the King in Pakyong (2006-2007), dean of the East Sikkim Deanery and bursar of Saint Xavier’s School in Pakyong (2007-2011), and parish priest of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Darjeeling (2011-2014).
He was appointed titular bishop of Maturba and vicar apostolic of Nepal on 25 April 2014, and received episcopal consecration on 29 June 2014. (Agenzia Fides, 9/11/2024)
