AMERICA/VENEZUELA - Appointment of the Apostolic Vicar of Tucupita

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 7 April 2015, the Holy Father appointed Fr. Ernesto José Romero Rivas, O.F.M. Cap., Pastor and Pro-Vicar of Tucupita as Apostolic Vicar of Tucupita, Venezuela. He has been assigned the titular see of Novasparsa.
Fr. Ernesto José Romero Rivas, O.F.M. Cap., was born on April 19, 1960 in Machiques (Zulia State), Venezuela. He completed his primary school education at San Pablo College, led by the Brothers of Christian Schools. After graduating from high school and attended University for a short period of time, he entered the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin. He studied philosophy at the German Roscio Institute of the Jesuit Fathers and theology at the Theology for Religious Institute (ITER) in Caracas. He was ordained a priest on 2 August 1990.
Since his ordination he has served in the following pastoral and academic roles: 1990-1992: Administrator of the parish of San José of Apostolic Vicariate of Tucupita; 1992-1996: Master of the post-novices, Vicar, Vice-Provincial Director and Board of the Friars Minor Capuchin in Venezuela; 1997-1998: Studies in Rome, earned a licentiate in Catechetics at the Pontifical Salesian University; 1999-2005: Superior, Minister, Treasurer and Vice-Provincial Director of the Friars Minor Capuchin in Venezuela; 2005-2009: Master of the post-novices, Superior and Rector, Director of Friars Minor Capuchin in Venezuela; 2008-2013: Vice-Provincial Minister of the Friars Minor Capuchin in Venezuela. Since 2013, Pro-Vicar of Tucupita and pastor of the parish of San José. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 08/04/2015)
