AFRICA/DR CONGO - Appointment of Auxiliary Bishops of Kinshasa

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 31 March 2015 the Holy Father appointed Fr. Donatien Bafuidinsoni, S.I., Judicial Vicar of the same Archdiocese, as Auxiliary for the Archdiocese of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo assigning him the titular see of Gemelle in Bizacena and Rev. Mgr. Jean-Pierre Kwambamba Masi, of the clergy of Kenge, official of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments as Auxiliary for the Archdiocese of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, assigning him the titular see of Naratcata.
Fr. Donatien Bafuidinsoni, S.I., was born on 11 December 1962 in Mai Ndombe (Bandundu). He entered the Novitiate of the Society of Jesus in Cyangugu (Rwanda) on 29 September 1981, he professed his first vows on September 11, 1983. He studied Philosophy at the St. Peter Canisius Kimwenza Faculty, in Kinshasa (1983-1986) – earning a diploma at the University of Lubumbashi (1986-1988) - and Theology at the Jesuit Hekima Institute in Nairobi, Kenya (1989-1992).
He was ordained a priest on 18 July 1993. Since ordination he has served in the following pastoral and academic roles: 1993-1999: Studies for a Doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome; 1999-2001: Delegate of the Provincial Father for the formation of the Jesuits in Africa; 2001-2008: Provincial for Central Africa; 2009-2012: Judicial Vicar of the Archdiocese of Kinshasa and Consultant of the Community of the Jesuits; since 2012: Judicial Vicar of the Archdiocese of Kinshasa; resides at the St Ignace house, where he is Superior.
Rev. Mgr. Jean-Pierre Kwambamba Masi was born on August 19, 1960 in Ngi, in the Province of Bandundu. After primary school in Bandundu and Bulungu (1967-1973), he entered the St Charles Lwanga minor Seminary in Kalonda, where he completed his secondary education studies (1973-1979). He studied Philosophy at the St Augustin major Seminary in Kalonda (1979-1982), and Theology at the Jean XXIII major Seminary in Kinshasa (1990-1992). He was ordained a priest on 17 August 1986.
Since ordination, he has served in the following pastoral and academic roles: 1987-1992: Studies for a Doctorate in Liturgy at St. Anselm; 1992-1994: Lecturer at the St Charles Lwanga minor Seminary in Kalonda; 1994-1998: General Vicar of the diocese of Kenge; 1998-2003: Rector and professor at the St. Cyprien Theological Major Seminary in Kikwit; since 2003: Official at the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments and the Papal Master of Ceremonies.
