Tuesday, 10 March 2015

Tehran (Agenzia Fides) - In the Islamic Republic of Iran the centenary of the Armenian Genocide will be the focus of a series of commemorative events that will also involve the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Iranian Parliament). This was confirmed to Armenian sources by Karen Khanlaryan and Robert Beglaryan, the two Armenian members of the Iranian Parliamentary Assembly. In the month of April, the two MPs were invited to present before the entire Assembly a motion condemning the Armenian Genocide. On the same occasion, Assyrian deputy Younathan Betkolia will prepare a speech condemning the Assyrian Genocide. Meanwhile – reports Armenpress website - already 100 letters were sent by Armenian MPs to their colleagues to raise awareness around the subject and invite them to express in public statements shared condemnation of the systematic massacres committed by the Young Turks in Anatolia a hundred years ago. For the future an event commemorating the centenary of the Genocide is being prepared and all parliamentarians will be invited, while the members of Armenia-Iran Friendship will travel to Yerevan on April 24 for an official visit to Tsitsernakaberd, the Memorial of the Armenian Genocide .
