Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 12 February 2015 the Holy Father appointed Rev. Fr. François Gnonhossou, S.M.A., currently general counsel of the Society of African Missions, as Bishop of the Diocese of Dassa-Zoumé (Benin).
The newly-elected Bishop was born on December 3, 1961 in Dassa-Zoumé.
He gave his religious vows in 1996, and was ordained a priest in 1997. He holds a licentiate in civil law and a bachelor's degree in theology.
He has served in a number of pastoral roles: 2001-2003: parish priest in Guffanti, in the Apostolic Vicariate of Kontagora, in Nigeria; 2003-2004: chaplain of the Apprentis d'Auteil in Paris; 2004-2007: vice-superior and subsequently superior of the S.M.A; 2007-2008: superior of the district in formation in Africa of the SMA; 2009-2011: assistant in various parishes in the diocese of Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario, Canada; 2011-2013: parish vicar of St. Sylvain, Montreal, Canada, and bursar of the local community.
