Avila (Agenzia Fides) - The main authorities of the Spanish Bishops' Conference of the Carmelite Order will attend the Mass that His Exc. Mgr. Ricardo Blazquez, Archbishop of Valladolid, will preside on October 15, the liturgical feast of St. Teresa of Avila, opening the V Centenary of St. Teresa, at the Gran Mercato Avila. 6,500 people from all over the world are expected. The note sent to Fides by Father Jorge Zazo, diocesan delegate for the V Centenary, says that the presence of groups of pilgrims from Italy, USA, France, Croatia and Korea is confirmed.
In addition to the Bishops and Cardinals of Spain, also the Superior General of the Carmelites, Fr Saverio Canistrà, the provincials and about a hundred Carmelites of Spain and Portugal, on behalf of the Carmelite family in the world will be present.
Father Antonio González, according to the note, general secretary of the V Centenary Foundation, informed that this celebration will also mark the beginning of the "Camino de Luz", the pilgrimage in the Carmelite world of a Teresian relic, the "Bastón" of Santa Teresa.
The event will be broadcast by 13 television stations and also from CTV (Vatican Television Center), other national networks in Spain have confirmed the live broadcast. The diocese of Avila promoted a vigil for Saturday, October 11 at the Cathedral, and on Tuesday, October 14, at 7pm, the Solemn Vespers will be celebrated and presided by the Father General of the Carmelite order, along with Mgr.
