AMERICA/ECUADOR - Family Week in Guayaquil, wealth and renewal of society

Guayaquil (Agenzia Fides) - "Family Week" is underway in the Archdiocese of Guayaquil. Organised for the first time by the Commission for the Family Pastoral of the Archdiocese, the Week takes place from September 29 to October 5, with different activities on the theme: "Christian Family: wealth and renewal of society and of the people of God".
According to information sent to Fides Agency, on September 29, a Mass was celebrated with grandparents and grandchildren, presided by Father Freddy Barzallo, Coordinator of the family pastoral. On Tuesday, 30 priests, and religious were asked to reflect on the theme of the Week in the morning and the laity in the afternoon. Former President of the Republic, Gustavo Noboa also gave his contribution.
The blessing of pregnant mothers and newborns, on this first day of October, will be presided by His Exc. Mgr. Giovanni Piccioli, Auxiliary Bishop, at the Maternity Center. On Thursday 2 the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle will see over 3500 young people who attended a series of lectures on affectivity in different parishes and youth centers. On Friday 3 there will be the communal celebration of the sacrament of marriage in the Cathedral, while in every parish there will be a renewal of marriage vows. On Saturday 4 in all the parishes and hospitals, Mass will be celebrated for the sick.
The closure of the Family Week, on Sunday, October 5, will be held in the main street Simón Bolívar, where throughout the day (from 9am to 5pm) all lay groups will present their efforts and invite those present to actively work within and outside the Church, in favor of the family and society.
