Friday, 19 September 2014

Jerusalem (Agenzia Fides) - The Israeli non-governmental organization IsrAID, engaged in humanitarian relief missions in various parts of the world, has started to offer its support to Christian and Yazidi refugees who have found refuge in the Kurdistan region of Iraq after being forced to leave their lands by the jihadists of the Islamic State. Sources of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) consulted by Fides Agency report that the Israeli NGO has already begun to distribute health kits, essential goods, clothes and kitchen utensils among the refugees. As explained by the executive director of AJC, David Harris, the mission intends to give support to refugees "forced to flee the brutality of the Islamic State". IsrAID, which implements projects in favor of populations affected by humanitarian emergencies in various parts of the world - from the Philippines to South Sudan, from Haiti to South Korea - since June 2013 has already taken initiatives regarding food assistance among Syrian refugees (about 7 thousand) in Jordan.
