AMERICA/DOMINICAN REP. - Emergency for public hospitals in the Country

Tuesday, 27 May 2014

Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) – There is emergency in the health care sector in the Dominican Republic, in spite of the tremendous efforts to provide equipment and improve facilities in hospitals. According to health care sources, the cause of the problem is the suspension of contributions provided by patients. Health centers do not receive any more money and the few funds the Government gives are not sufficient. The so-called "recovery rates" were used to support the structures that are now devoid of materials for laboratories and medicine. Hospitals are not able to provide adequate medical care to meet the epidemics of dengue, chikungunya and other infectious diseases currently underway. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 27/05/2014)
