AFRICA/KENYA - Appointment of the Coadjutor Bishop of Garissa

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI on June 29, 2012 appointed Rev. Father Joseph Alessandro, O.F.M. Cap.as Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Garissa (Kenya). Rev. Fr. Joseph Alessandro, O.F.M. Cap., was born on October 27, 1949 in Paola, in the Archdiocese of Malta. After primary and secondary education, he entered the Order of Capuchin Friars of the Province of Malta on September 24, 1961; on September 30, 1962 he professed the first temporary vows and on September 30, 1966 the perpetual vows. On 5 April 1970 he was ordained a priest in Trento in Italy.
After ordination, he has held the following positions: Instructor of the post-novices, teacher of religion, Superior, Professor of Moral, Rector of the INERM (Institutum Nationale Studiorum Ecclesiasticorum Religiosorum Melitensium), Provincial Director of formation, President of the Council of instructors, Provincial Councillor, Provincial Vicar, Provincial Minister Secretary, Provincial, Missionary in Kenya.
