AFRICA/SENEGAL - Appointment of the Bishop of Ziguinchor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Holy Father Benedict XVI on January 25, 2012 appointed Rev. Paul Abel Mamba, now Apostolic Administrator of the same diocese as Bishop of Ziguinchor (Senegal)
Rev. Paul Abel Mamba was born on December 5, 1960 in Cabrousse in Casamence, Diocese of Ziguinchor. He studied at the Minor Seminary of Saint Louis in Ziguinchor, and later at the Notre Dame Seminary of Ziguinchor. He subsequently passed to the National Major Seminary of Libermann of Sebikhotane in Dakar. He was ordained a priest on April 8, 1988.
After ordination, he has held the following positions: 1988-1991: Treasurer of Notre Dame Minor Seminary of Ziguinchor; 1991-2006: Fidei Donum priest in the Diocese of Tambacounda (Senegal); 1991-1993: Director of the Minor Seminary of Tambacounda; 1993-1995: Studies in management, accounting and computer science at the Institut Catholique of Yaoundé (Cameroon): 1995-2004: Treasurer of the Diocese of Tambacounda, 2004-2006: Treasurer of the Diocesan Caritas of Tambacounda; 2006-2007: sabbatical Year at the Centre Sèvres in Paris; 2007-2009: Vicar of the parish church of the Martyrs de l’Ouganda. Since 2010, he has been the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Ziguinchor.
The Diocese of Ziguinchor (1955), suffragan of the Archdiocese of Dakar, has an area of 7,339 square kilometers and a population of 638,000 inhabitants, of whom 105,800 are Catholics. There are 25 parishes, 115 priests (108 diocesan and 7 religious ), 118 nuns and 29 seminarians. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 26/01/2012)
