Madrid (Agenzia Fides) - On the occasion of the World Day for Social Communications in Spain, as in many other countries around the world, the Episcopal Commission for the means of Social Communication of the Spanish Episcopal Conference issued a message entitled "Promoting the New Evangelization in the digital age " will be celebrated, on Sunday, June 5, the Solemnity of the Ascension, and a copy was sent to Fides.
The Spanish Bishops recall the Holy Father's message for this occasion, emphasizing the most significant points: "In his teaching, Benedict XVI made an analysis of the positive and negative consequences that in the lives of individuals and society the use of new communication technologies is becoming increasingly widespread, especially online social networks by young people. " After emphasizing the need to maintain relationships and direct relationships, the attention of the Pope is addressed towards the need to evangelize the digital world, to proclaim, even in a secularized world like the present, the supremacy of God and that God is the condition for man to reach its fullness.
This task involves all areas of the Catholic action, including social networks and modern means of communication, through the promotion of the New Evangelization. "To realize the New Evangelization, which rebuilds and revitalizes the Christian fabric of Spanish society, the Catholic community needs now more than ever, media and communication professionals with a clear Catholic identity to give back religion its presence in public space." For this demanding task, the Spanish Bishops seek the intercession of Blessed Pope John Paul II, who is not only "a qualified mediator of the communication operators, but it is an excellent example of Christian communicator ... during his pontificate he worked to find space for God in the media , for the Gospel, the Church, and even a place for the media, for social communications in the Church. "
The Message of the Spanish Bishops concludes with remembrance and prayer "for the journalists who violently died for their professional capacity to convey the truth and defend the right of information", with the support to Christian journalists and all professionals and expressing closeness to those unemployed or with precarious jobs.
