Adidome (Agenzia Fides) – Work has just recently begun on a new home for the disabled in Adidome, Ghana, in the Volta Region. 7 adults between 18 and 32 years are being cared for at the facility, with programs designed specifically to improve their quality of life and integration. The center currently consists of a small house, exterior rooms for youth, an unfinished wood shop for carpentry. A note from Father Kelechi Maduforo, local superior of the Guanellians, who promote the initiative, says: "The expansion project will involve the construction of a house for professionals, youth, activities, warehouses, the completion of carpentry workshops, construction of a water well including a storage tank 10 meters high, creating a structure for the animals, a stone fence for the complex, and the creation of the Good Samaritan Home For Mentally Challenged, intended for children with disabilities, ages 3 to 15, who are already involved in the project."
The new guests will be offered a family environment and community life through a series of activities throughout the day, intended to tap into the potentials they have, to build greater autonomy: from collaboration in cleaning, preparing meals together with one of the workers, preparation of the prayers for different activities, gardening, animal husbandry, cleaning the center, etc. In the afternoon, there will be classroom activities, workshops on crafts, sports, night prayer, and moments for sharing experiences. Two workers will coordinate the instruction and management of the house. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 10/06/2010)
