Malaga (Agenzia Fides) – Members of the Bishops' Commission for Social Communications of Portugal and Spain, together with the President of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli, met in Malaga on June 28, 29, and 30 to discuss the theme "The Church and the new communications technologies: an opportunity for the pastoral mission." The participants shared their thoughts and thanked everyone for what has been done so far to insert the life of the Church into the “digital cultural.”
The final document, which was also published by the Catholic Information Service of the Spanish Bishops' Conference, has 10 points from the conclusions of the meeting. The 10 points are: the Holy Father's visit to Portugal, Benedict XVI's upcoming visit to Spain, his words to the world of culture, the Church's evangelizing mission in the digital world, the importance of the evangelization of contemporary culture (which is essentially characterized by the media), the benefits of new technologies, the exercise of pastoral ministry with these tools of technology (particularly Internet), the role of parents and educators, and the importance of the mass media to promote solidarity with the needy and for the common good of society.
