AFRICA/SENEGAL - National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on 22 January 2010 appointed as National Director of Pontifical Mission Societies in Senegal for five years (2010-2015), Fr. Bruno Favero, of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI).
The new National Director was born in Altivole (Province of Treviso, Italy) on January 18, 1958. After university studies (in Social Work and Teaching), he studied Philosophy and Theology at the Pontifical Lateran University. In 1989, he received a licentiate in Church History at the Pontifical Gregorian University. After attending the Novitiate of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (1983-84), he made his first religious profession in 1984 and perpetual profession in 1988. He was ordained priest on April 8, 1989. He carried out his ministry in Italy, engaged in parish missions, from 1989 to 1992. Then in October 1992, he left for Senegal. After studying the language and inclusion in local missionary life, he held various positions: assistant parish priest in the Archdiocese of Dakar and the Diocese of Kolda, diocesan chaplain of the Shrine of Notre Dame de la Paix Temento; responsible for diocesan catechesis; Acting Head of the Pontifical Mission Societies, President of the Union of Religious of Casamance (U.re.ca.).
