AMERICA/BRAZIL - “Keeping the missionary flame alight”: Salesian and FMA meet on missions

Saturday, 17 April 2010

Porto Alegre (Agenzia Fides) - “Keeping the missionary flame alight” was the theme of the meeting of the teams of the Salesians of the “Saint Pius X” Province and that of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) “Our Lady of Aparecida” Province, both based in Porto Alegre. It was held on 10 and 11 April and attended by 64 team members to plan and work together in promoting the missions. From the various things said it was clear that in order to evangelise it is necessary to overcome any barriers. “Nowadays it is easier to cross geographical, cultural, social and political frontiers than to reach peoples hearts,” said one FMA Sister. ““The FMA came into being as a missionary community and this fact ought always to be a source of hope, so that tenderness and compassion may be the daily characteristics of the groups in solidarity.” Fr. Poffo, the Provincial Delegate for the missions, commented: “We need to understand the priorities of each individual and of each region, understand the social and religious context. Without working together, it is impossible to overcome the challenges of missionary animation.” (AP) (Agenzia Fides 17/4/2010)
