EUROPE/LUXEMBOURG - New President of European Conference of the Holy Childhood Association: children are full-fledged participants in missionary work

Wednesday, 7 April 2010

Luxembourg (Agenzia Fides) - "Mission: Live it From Baptism!” was the theme of reflection proposed by the European Conference of the Holy Childhood Association (CEME, Conférence Européenne de l'Enfance Mission) which was held recently in Luxembourg. The participants discussed and reflected upon the missionary task of all the baptized: conquered by the love of God, with words and actions the baptized must always share this love with others. And this will be a continuous enrichment for them, as well. Therefore, the missionary life is not a "one-way street."
Leaders of European countries in which the Pontifical Society of the Holy Childhood Association is present paid special attention to the situation of children, trying to answer certain questions: "How do they see life? What questions do they have? How do they act in society?" It is obvious that children are full-fledged participants in missionary work and that they are particularly sensitive to the situation of their peers, even to the point of making great acts of solidarity. It is no coincidence that the slogan of the HCA is "Children Helping Children."
The CEME is an especially important meeting, since the situation of the HCA in European countries is greatly varied. While in some countries, it has great resources in personnel and in a financial nature, boasting a long tradition, in other countries it is still in its infancy, relying on only a few people. Against this background the CEME becomes a forum for exchange of ideas and working material. Personal contacts also facilitate collaboration beyond the short time of the Conference.
During the meeting, participants were greeted with much gratitude by Jean Lazarus (Missio of Belgium) on the end of his term as President of CEME, leaving the task to Flavio Moresino (Missio Switzerland-Liechtenstein) to be President for the period 2010 -2016, assisted by a committee composed of representatives of France, Luxembourg, Ireland, and Germany.
