Tiefenbronn (Agenzia Fides) – It is a project that involves about 200 alumni of the Guanellian houses of Naro and Ceglie (Italy), along with some 20 German collaborators: the Guanelliani Missionary Office opened in Tiefenbronn (in Baden-Württemberg, southern Germany), 15 km from the border with France, which in these days has celebrated its year anniversary of formal approval. According to information received by Fides, its main purpose is to raise funds to support projects submitted by the various Guanellian Provinces, in connection with the missions in Africa and Asia. "This began in an 'embryonic state' in 1992," says Gero Lombardo, of the Guanellian lay movement, a former student who has been in Germany for 40 years. "We started to raise funds for various small and large projects in Mexico and Chile, reported by superiors or fellow students. Then, in Honduras we renovated the premises of a home for street children. Early 2000, an irrigation system for the St. Teresa Center in Abor (Ghana) was created.
The Mission Office was officially opened on March 15, 2009 by delegation of the Superior Province of Divine Providence of the “Opera Don Guanella,” with the approval of the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Freiburg and the Missionary Offices Association of the 120 religious orders operating in Germany. The first 12 months have been especially dedicated to logistics organization, the activation of a website, and contacts with all agencies of solidarity, both Catholic and Lutheran. The Office has scheduled a seminar in England, for the presentation of the Guanella charisma, and it is in gradual development in Germany. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 24/02/2010)
