ASIA/THAILAND - National Director of Pontifical Mission Societies appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on November 27, 2009, appointed Fr. Peter Vachasil Kritcharoen as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Thailand for a five-year term (2009-2014).
The new National Director was born September 29, 1955 in the Diocese of Ratchaburi and was ordained a priest by Pope John Paul II on May 11, 1984 at St. Joseph Seminary, Sampram, Nakhonpathom (Thailand). He studied philosophy and theology at the Saengtham College, holds a Master of Arts (1987) from Sukhothai Thammathirat University and a licentiate in theology with a specialization in youth ministry and catechesis at the Pontifical Salesian University in 1992. He served as assistant pastor (1984/86) and pastor (1986/89), then Director of the Catechetical Center of the Diocese of Ratchburi (1991/2007). He is currently Secretary of the Commission for the Missions in the Bishops' Conference of Thailand (since 2007), Diocesan Director of the PMS of Ratchburi, and Vice-Dean of the Christology Department at Saengtham College in Sampran.
