AMERICA/UNITED STATES - A bridge of prayer and solidarity between HCA children in the US and 40 children in Nepal, staying at a parish hostel in order to attend school

New York (Agenzia Fides) - According to information sent from Monica Yehle of the US Pontifical Mission Societies National Director's Office, this Advent and Christmas the Holy Childhood Association will be focusing on needy children living in the country of Nepal and how the Church there helps to bring help and hope to these children and their families. “As we prepare to celebrate Christmas, I cannot help but think of the many children I meet during my visits to the Missions,” explains Monsignor John E. Kozar, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the United States, which include HCA. “These children come to experience the love of our Lord, one Savior of the world, through the service of priests, Religious and lay catechists.”
Monsignor Kozar cited one particular parish in Nepal where there is a hostel for some 40 boys who attend a local school. Because these children live so far away from any school — a journey of two days by bus and five days walking — this is their only chance for an education. While at the hostel, these young people receive loving care from local Sisters.
The HCA's “It's Our World” newsletter sent out to US children this Advent reads: “Several time zones away from the United States in the city of Kathmandu, the love and prayers you offer for children in the Missions are making a real difference in the lives of some of the most marginalized members of society in Nepal.” The newsletter also includes a prayer for the children to say during Advent, asking God to help them in their work of spreading the “Good News” of Jesus, “so that the whole world is filled with the light of His love.” “The young people in our own country eagerly respond, in prayer and sacrifice, to help their brothers and sisters in faraway lands,” Monsignor Kozar explains. “They know that they are missionaries right now, where they are. Their generous missionary faith is an inspiration to me personally.” (AR) (Agenzia Fides 10/12/2009)
