VATICAN - “Ephphata! The Deaf Person in the Life of the Church”: Program for the 24th International Conference of the Pontifical Council for Health Pastoral Care

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – On November 19-21, the Vatican will host the 24th International Conference of the Pontifical Council for Health Pastoral Care, which this year will be dedicated to “The Deaf Person in the Life of the Church.”
At the presentation of the Program, Archbishop Zygmunt Zimowski, President of the Pontifical Council for Health Pastoral Care, commented that: “The objective in choosing this theme is to offer an opportunity to the Church to appreciate the contribution of deaf people in the various areas of apostolate, thus giving full recognition to their relevance in all they do...The talks will offer a sociological, psychological, medical, familial, and above all personal approach to the conditions of deaf persons, in order to create awareness in the entire community and promote concrete and efficacious action on a social and ecclesial level, to alleviate the difficulties suffered by deaf persons.”
Preparation for the official publication of the Conference has been especially entrusted to the International Catholic Foundation for the Service of Deaf Persons and the Religious Congregation “Little Mission for the Deaf and Dumb.” (AP) (Agenzia Fides 2/9/2009)
