ASIA/MYANMAR - New Rector appointed for St Joseph's major theological seminary in Yangon

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) –Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, on 17 April 2009, appointed Rector of St Joseph's Major Theological Seminary in the archdiocese of Yangon, Rev. Hyginus Myint Soe, who is a member of the diocesan clergy of Yangon (Myanmar).
The new Rector was born on 11 January 1968 at Shwe Hin Thar Kyune, Nyaungdon. After primary and secondary school, with studies in chemistry, he studied philosophy at Pyin Oo Lwin Major Seminary (1989-1991), he completed his studies in chemistry (1991-1992), then studied theology at the Major Seminary of Yangon (1992-1996). He was ordained a priest on 19 March 1996 in the Cathedral of Yangon. After his ordination he served for a year at the Minor Seminary of Bago, then went to Paris to continue his studies (1997-2002), at the Institute Catholique de Paris, for a Doctorate in Canon Law. Since 2003 he has taught Canon Law and served as Dean of Studies at St Joseph's Major Theological Seminary in the archdiocese of Yangon. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 2/7/2009; righe 15; parole 197)
