AMERICA/EL SALVADOR - 22,000 people with AIDS, 2,500 dead from the disease; social organizations in a March against the disease

San Salvador (Agenzia Fides) – A solidarity march for the people who have died of AIDs and for HIV positive patients was recently held in the city of San Salvador, promoted by the Forum of Organizations working on fighting against the disease. Demonstrators have made an appeal to authorities in the Education Department of the Government, religious leaders, and the general public, asking that they promote the change in behavior needed for the people, through educational processes.
Every day, the country sees 5-6 new cases of people with HIV and the majority of these are between 20-30 years of age. According to the health records of the country, there are nearly 22,000 people infected and 2,500 that have died from the virus. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 19/05/2009)
