Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples on 25 July 2007, appointed Rev. Donald Dean Chambers, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Kingston in Jamaica, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Antilles for a five year term (2006-2011).
The new National Director was born on 29 September 1963, he is of Jamaican nationality and was ordained a priest on 28 June 1992 in Kingston Cathedral. After attending St. James minor seminary at Montego Bay, Jamaica he went to St. Michael’s Seminary, Kingston, and then successively to the Catholic University of America (Washington), Xavier University of Louisiana, and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome where he obtained a doctorate in theology (2002/2006). In the archdiocese of Kingston he has ministered as follows: assistant parish priest, teacher at St. Michael’s Seminary and St. Michael’s Theological Centre, assistant director and then director of Catholic Voice Radio Programme, Communications Coordinator for the National Communications Commission of Jamaica, vocations director, parish priest, teacher and formator at St. John M.
