AMERICA/PERU - The Pope appoints coadjutor of Apostolic Vicariate of Puccallpa

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI on 18 July 2007, appointed Coadjutor Bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Puccallpa in Peru, Fr. Gaetano Galbusera, S.D.B., until now rector of the major seminary of Pumallucay (Prelature of Huari), assigning to him the titular see of Mascula.
Fr Gaetano Galbusera, S.D.B., was born in Marasso-Missaglia, in the diocese of Milan Italy on 28 August 1940. He studied for a degree in philosophy at the Catholic University of Milan and a Licentiate in Theology at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome. He made his perpetual profession on 16 August 1963 and was ordained a priest on 22 December 1967. After studies in Milan and Rome he ministered as follows: 1980- 1986: director of the Salesian college and parish in Arese; 1986-1987: director of the Salesian college in Bologna; 1987-1993: Inspector of the Ispettoria Adriatica; 1993-1997: director of the Salesian college and parish at Sesto San Giovanni and Inspectoral counsellor of the Lombardy-Emilia ispettoria; since 1997: after moving to Peru he was appointed rector of the major seminary in Pumallucay (Prelatura di Huari).
The Apostolic Vicariate of Pucallpa was created in 1956. It has an area of 52,168sq km and a population of about 500.000, including 390,000 Catholics gathered in 19 parishes assisted by 20 priests (6 diocesan and 14 religious), 2 deacons, 13 Brothers and 32 Sisters.
