Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) - “Love without limits of religion”: with this purpose, the Catholic hospital of Luo Dong opened a new Centre for terminally ill patients, characterised by its being an inter-religious centre. Archbishop Hong Shan Chuan, Archbishop of Tai Pei, recently inaugurated and blessed the place of prayer for Catholics. According to Christian Life Weekly, the weekly bulletin of the Archdiocese of Tai Pei, the Centre has 15 beds reserved for terminally ill cancer patients. Attending to the great needs of these sick patients, the medical personnel and pastoral care workers of the hospital are placing in practice their desire to “work together to do something good,” eliminating any sort of ethnic or religious barrier. This is how the Centre began. In addition, the local Buddhist community has provided a room for Buddhist prayer, with a statue of Buddha, inaugurated the same day as the Catholic chapel. In the event of the Inauguration, both Catholics and Buddhists read from the “Declaration of Love and Service,” with the intention of offering the best care possible for these terminally ill patients from both a human perspective, as well as from a technical perspective, with full respect for human dignity.
