ASIA/INDIA - New Youth Formation Centre in diocese of Mangalore

Friday, 1 June 2007

Bangalore (Agenzia Fides) - The local Catholic community in India continues to provide education and professional training all over the country. A new Youth Formation Centre was recently opened by Bishop Aloysius D’Souza of Mangalore in the south western state of Karnataka. The Centre will offer study seminars, programmes of professional training, degrees in various fields scientific, technological and humanistic. The aim is to help young people in the diocese increase their knowledge and opportunities for employment and to play an active role in society.
The Centre belongs to the Indian Catholic Youth Movement, which recently celebrated 25 years of presence in Mangalore. At the Centre the young people will be encouraged to take part in pastoral and social activities and volunteer work.
The local Church plans a mission from youth to youth to share the faith. When the faith is shared by word and deed it has more impact. Lay Catholics in India, young people especially, are ever more aware of their responsibility as baptised Christians to share the Good News of Christ and his Gospel with the whole world. Events such as the 1st Asian Youth Day, organised on the model of World Youth Days, is one excellent example of this. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 1/6/2007 righe 26 parole 263)
