Dublin (Fides Service) – A special Mission Mass on national TRE television, a seminar and workshop on the “Relationship between Evangelisation and Development” with main speaker Archbishop Darmuid Martin, newly appointed Archbishop Coadjutor of Dublin; a colloquium on the Tragedy of War ; Make his Face Shine mission preaching in parishes. These are some of the initiatives organised by the Church in Ireland to mark Mission Sunday 2003. Father Edward Grimes, National Pontifical Mission Societies director informs Fides Service. The Irish national Mission Council, of which the PMS is an important member, established a ten year plan to restore October as Mission Month in the Church in Ireland. This is the third year of the plan.
Mission Sunday with a special Mass for the spread of the Gospel will be celebrated in every church and religious community throughout Ireland. “It is hoped that a fitting celebration of Mission Alive in October will celebrate the contribution of Irish people around the world and highlight the activities in which missionaries are involved.” PA (Fides Service 18/10/2003 EM lines 17 Words: 188)
