AMERICA/PERU - First National Meeting for Italian missionaries in Peru 15 to 18 January will deepen missionary spirituality and build bonds of reciprocal knowledge and brotherhood

Lima (Agenzia Fides) - Lima will host the First National Meeting for Italian missionaries in Peru from 15 to 18 January, Fides was informed by executive secretary of the meeting Fr. Ambrogio Cortesi. The meeting, to be held at Juan Pablo II retreat house Santa Rosa, Lima, is for religious and lay missionaries of Italian origin. Conferences and group discussion will focus on ongoing formation, building bonds of friendship and deepening missionary spirituality. Fr. Ambrogio, said the plan is to hold a meeting of this kind every year and to have a special Meeting web site.
Conferences will be given on the following topics: "The social situation of Peru after an electoral year: challenges and prospects" by Michel Azcueta, director of the Municipal School of Management; " Latin American Situation” Alberto Adrián Zen, political analyst; "How the Church in Peru is preparing for CELAM 5 Aparecida" Fr Roger Rodríguez Ruiz, from Chimbote diocese; "report on the social and ecclesial situation in Italia" Rev. Felice Tenero, CUM Foundation council.
The meeting is promoted by the Fondazione CUM (Centro Unitario Missionario) of the Italian Bishops’ Conference which organises initiatives for ongoing formation of fidei donum priests, and religious and lay missionaries. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 10/1/2007; righe 24, parole 350)
