AFRICA/GHANA - The Pope appoints Auxiliary of Cape Coast

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on 24 November, appointed Auxiliary of the Archdiocese of Cape Coast (Ghana) Rev. Matthias Kobena Nketsiah of the clergy of Cape Coast, parish priest of St. John the Baptist, assigning to him the titular See of Abaradira.
Rev. Matthias Kobena Nketsiah was born on 14 April 1942 at Kakomdo, Cape Coast. After attending St. Theresa minor seminary at Amisano, he studied philosophy and theology at St. Peter’s Regional Major Seminary. He was ordained a priest on 19 July 1970 for the archdiocese of Cape Coast and has since ministered as follows: assistant priest at Agona Swedru parish (1970-1973); teacher at St. Theresa’s Minor seminary, Amisano (1973-1975); Studies for a doctorate in Canon Law at Urban University, Rome, while residing at Urban College (1975-1979); Professor of Canon Law at St. Peter’s major seminary in Pedu (1979-1980); chancellor and Episcopal vicar (1980-1981); parish priest at Ajumako Biseasi (1981-1986); judge of the Inter -diocesan ecclesiastical Court (1986-1993); Vicar General of the archdiocese (1993-2001); Sabbatical year in England (2001-2002); parish priest at St. John the Baptist parish; Judicial vicar of the Inter-diocesan Tribunal (since 2002).
