OCEANIA/PAPUA NEW GUINEA - The Pope accepts the resignation of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Mount Hagen and appoints Successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, on 17 July 2006, accepted the renunciation of the pastoral government of the Archdiocese of Mount Hagen (Papua New Guinea) presented by Metropolitan Archbishop Michael Meier, SVD, in conformity with the Code of Canon Law al can. 401 § 1. The Holy Father appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Mount Hagen (Papua New Guinea) Bishop Douglas Young, SVD, until now titular bishop of Rusubbicari and auxiliary of the same archdiocese of Mount Hagen.
