Valparaíso (Agenzia Fides) - “Be bold, announce Christ. He is Life!” is the title of a 2006-2007 pastoral plan issued by the diocese of Valparaíso Chile which has proclaimed two years of Evangelisation and Solidarity, the Bishop Gonzalo Duarte García de Cortázar said “for years we have looked inside the Church now we want to be the Church which looks outside”. Proposing evangelisation with testimony the presentation says “we intend to focus on the contents of the faith and the attitude of the evangeliser as contemplated in Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman ".
The Plan aims to make the diocese of Valparaíso a place of evangelisation where every Christian may encounter Christ and realise the urgency to spread the Good News and awareness of communion with Jesus Christ and the brothers and sisters may be expressed in Christian love for the poorest of the poor. More specific goals include: assess local situations in view of addressing problems so that evangelisation and solidarity may transform life; adapt pastoral structures for new evangelisation and solidarity; give new impulse the preparation for Christian initiation; foster more active participation in Sunday Mass as a start for mission and solidarity; study the statement “On the Way to our 2nd Centenary”, so every project may be illuminated with the Social Teaching of the Church, lay Catholics play a part in building society of more justice and solidarity.
The work of three years can be summarised according to the organisers: announcing Christ to those inside, to those who are coming and those outside the Church to give new impulse to the Church’s evangelising mission with special focus on aspects of the social field.
