Rome (Agenzia Fides) - The Madrid based Fontilles Association to Fight Leprosy, Spain has offered 116 boys and 114 girls in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu the chance to go to school and receive an education which will allow them to escape from the conditions of poverty and disease in which they were trapped. School started on June 1.
These are children who have experience of leprosy because either they themselves, or their parents are or were affected by leprosy and they still suffer because of the social stigma which isolates people with leprosy from the rest of the world.
The previous campaign in 2005 “El futuro de muchos niños está escrito” paid for 120 study grants.
While children in Spain are preparing for Summer holidays, the school year starts in India and 230 lucky children see a door open for a better future. (AP) (23/6/2006 Agenzia Fides; Righe:16; Parole: 167)
