Agenzia Fides (Cairo) - More than 100 young people from 11 parishes together with their 30 animators participated, in the main church of the Coptic Catholic Patriarchate of Cairo, in the Mission Day held at the beginning of the month of July. This initiative is part of a broader proposal to organize mission awareness days in Egypt's nine Catholic dioceses. The National Direction of the Egyptian Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), coordinated by Father Andraws Fahmi, in collaboration with the Pontifical Society of the Holy Childhood (POSI), embarked on this path at the beginning of the missionary year by preparing material and involving diocesan directors at the local level so that these days can involve boys and girls from secondary schools.
The Patriarch of the Coptic Catholic Church, Ibrahim Isaac Sidrak, spoke during the Mission Day and encouraged boys and girls to be missionaries through gestures and actions in all circumstances: “Everyone is called to reflect the love of Christ for all, and in all our activities and gestures, we can convey this message, and recognize Christ in the other people around us. It is thus, through simple gestures, that the entire Christian message is concretely communicated.” The day began with the celebration of the Eucharist, presided over by the diocesan director of PMS, Father Emanuele Sobhy, and continued with the presentation of POSI and international missionary activities offered to young people. The highlight of the morning was a catechesis on the Eucharist, nourishment of the Christian mission, given by parish leaders, which the young people listened to divided into eight groups. In the afternoon, recreational activities were proposed by a specialized group aimed at conveying through play the objective of the Days, which is to raise awareness of the mission and the issues relating to it.
“Our National Direction organized these Days, which are still underway, with the support of the bishops and diocesan directors,” explained Father Fahmi, “and we hope to be able to repeat such events every year, which are so important for animating and training the new generations to the mission.
