Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On Thursday February 29, a series of videoconferences for missionaries with a focus on prayer begins, organized by the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU) and led by its Secretary General, Father Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen (ofmConv). who is also director of the International Center for Missionary Animation. The conferences are divided into four online sessions, will be held in Italian and are aimed at everyone, especially missionaries, priests and religious. The course takes place as part of the Year of Prayer in preparation for the upcoming Holy Year 2025 and at the same time aims to be a concrete response to Pope Francis' call, contained in the message for World Mission Day 2024, to attend Mass and pray for the mission of evangelization of the Church, which is the focus of the training activity of PMU.
"Prayer, like faith itself, is always missionary - explains Father Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen - prayer is not just an intimate moment with God, but the moment in which God calls us to mission. Prayer is the breath of every baptized person sent by God on mission. We are pleased that we have received excellent feedback and registrations for the course from different parts of the world." The four online conferences (February 29, March 6, March 14, March 19) will each take place from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and include an introduction to the central theme given at the first meeting by Father Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen; this will be followed by a reflection with a specific focus, entrusted to experts on the subject in question (on February 29th it will be the Comboni missionary sister Maria Rosa Venturelli) and finally the exchange will also take place on the theme of the event, starting from the life of the missionaries and saints of the religious congregation to which the participants belong, up to today's pastoral care.
On February 29th, the prayer of Jesus will be the focus, with the theme "The Prayer of Jesus, the Messenger of the Father", while on March 6th, the "Our Father", as the missionary prayer par excellence, will be the focus of the conference, starting from the invocation "Thy Kingdom come", the first "concern" of Jesus in the message he entrusted to his disciples. On March 14th it will be the turn of "The prayer of the first missionary disciples of Christ" while the course will conclude on March 19th with the theme "Eucharist, source and summit of mission and prayer". The cycle of conferences in Italian will be followed by other similar courses in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Participation is free.
