Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed the following as auxiliary bishops of the metropolitan archdiocese of Nairobi, Kenya: the Reverend Simon Peter Kamomoe, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, until now administrator of the Holy Family Basilica Cathedral in Nairobi, assigning him the titular see of Thubunae in Numidia; the Reverend Wallace Ng’ang’a Gachihi, of the local clergy, until now parish priest and coordinator of archdiocesan pastoral ministry, assigning him the titular see of Thucca in Mauretania.
Msgr. Simon Peter Kamomoe was born on 26 Novembeer 1962 in Gatundu, district of Kiambu, in the archdiocese of Nairobi. After attending Saint Mary’s Major Seminary in Molo, he studied philosophy at Saint Augustine’s Senior Seminary in Mabanga and theology at Saint Matthias Mulumba Senior Seminary in Tindinyo.
He was ordained a priest on 18 June 1994 for the archdiocese of Nairobi.
Since ordination, he has served as assistant at the Queen of Apostles Junior Seminary of Nairobi (1994-1995); assistant in the parishes of Thigio (1995), Mang’u (1995-1996), Ndundu (1996-1997), and Saint Matthias Mulumba in Thika (1997-1998); parish priest of Our Lady of Fatima in Kiriko (1998-1999); parish priest of Saints Peter and Paul in Kiambu and, at the same time, vicar forane as well as member of the College of Consultors (1999-2008). Since 2008 he has served as administrator of the Holy Family Basilica Cathedral of Nairobi and chaplain of the diocesan office for family pastoral care.
Msgr. Wallace Ng’ang’a Gachihi was born on 26 March 1973 in Gatundu, district of Kiambu, in the archdiocese of Nairobi. After attending Saint Mary’s Major Seminary in Molo, he studied philosophy at Saint Augustine’s Senior Seminary in Mabanga and theology at Saint Matthias Mulumba Senior Seminary in Tindinyo.
He was ordained a priest on 21 May 2005, incardinated in the archdiocese of Nairobi.
After ordination, he first held the roles of assistant (2005-2006) and then parish priest of Saints Peter and Paul in Kiambu (2006-2009). He studied for a master’s degree in pastoral theology at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa-CUEA) (2009-2011) and served at the same time as assistant in the Regina Coeli parish in Karen (2009-2015); since 2015 he has been parish priest of Christ the King in Embakasi and, since 2011, coordinator of archdiocesan pastoral ministry.
