Maumere (Agenzia Fides) - "Here we have no time to grow old because the various activities keep us young," writes Father Luigi Galvani from the island of Flores in Indonesia. The Camillian missionary, who is a pioneer in the Diocese of Maumere, reports on some of the tasks carried out by the Church on the island. "Every week we are busy visiting the sick and elderly in the community, to whom we bring communion together with our seminarians. Every month we also distribute a food package to 160 poor families," he affirms.
"We are also honored by the 'Vite-inceppate' project that we have created," adds Father Galvani, "thanks to which we help mentally ill people who have been living in miserable huts.
"Thanks to the generosity of friends, they have small huts in which they have a bed, a table, a chair and, above all, a toilet. In just a few years we have already helped many people and built a total of around eighty huts."
"The Bishop of Maumere, Edwaldus Sebu, is currently very busy with ordinations," reports the missionary, speaking of a constant blossoming of vocations on the island of Flores. Six priests of the Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary have just been ordained. “We Camillians are also on the list for two of our confreres on February 11th. Most of these vocations come from our island of Flores, which is always referred to as the 'promised land' of male and female vocations and missionaries. Vocational Providence does not seem to be lacking here. In fact, further ordinations are being prepared in the various institutes for the coming months,” he emphasizes. “The Lord seems to love us and bless our island of Flores and our missionary efforts,” the missionary concludes.
