Juba (Agenzia Fides) - "This is a very important event, both for the faith and for the holistic development of the Church," said the Bishop of Yei, Alex Lodiong Sakor, on the occasion of the presentation of the five-year plan that will guide the work of the church in the coming years. The document is also aimed at the activities of all the parishes of the diocese with the aim of strengthening the mission of the Church to provide for the spiritual and physical needs of people. A statement sent to Fides states that the plan for the period 2024-2028 will focus on evangelization, social development, economics, monitoring and evaluation and takes as its theme a verse from the Gospel of Luke: "Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch". Bishop Lodiong Sakor urged all stakeholders to embrace the document so that it can be easily and properly implemented. "I am very confident that this strategy will be successful," said the prelate. "I have said many times that the Diocese of Yei and many other places have been destroyed and damaged by ill will, but I am confident that with cooperation the good will of all will prevail." In Juba, on the occasion of the presentation of the program, the parliamentarian and councilor for human rights in the state of Central Equatoria, to which the Catholic diocese of Yei belongs, also spoke and praised the Church for its great support towards the people of God. "The state government highly appreciates the church's efforts and calls on it to continue its pastoral work. As Christians, we too must be filled with the word of God. Despite the constant clashes, you have encouraged the people through your presence in these areas," he stressed. The Bishop had repeatedly expressed concern about the situation in his country, which is plagued by wars and ongoing internal conflicts (see Fides 6/9/2022). "We are not just issuing a document, but working to ensure that what we have learned is implemented. The program will be aimed at all our communities," Bishop Lodiong added.
